Make Fair Trade vegetables the star of your holiday meal

We love November for many reasons. It’s fall, it’s Thanksgiving, and of course, it’s the time of year when we can find the most Fair Trade Certified™ veggies on store shelves. Basically everything good.

This year you can extend the holiday spirit from your harvest table to farming families around the world with Fair Trade. By choosing produce with the Fair Trade Certified seal, you can turn grandma’s green bean casserole or Aunt Judy’s butternut squash soup into a global force for good.

So many to choose...

Here’s a list of our Fair Trade festive favorites that taste good and do good:

  • Squash (butternut, spaghetti, sugar pie and more)
  • Asparagus
  • Green Beans
  • Eggplant Snow peas
  • Bell Peppers
  • Carrots
  • Cucumbers
  • Tomatoes
  • Herbs (thyme, oregano, sage, basil, etc…)

The impact of your purchase

In 2015 alone your purchases of Fair Trade Certified produce helped farmers and workers earn $6.5 million in additional Premium funds. This amazing momentum has helped farming communities invest in much needed projects, like education, healthcare and improved housing.

At Wholesum Harvest in Mexico, the farmworkers voted to use this additional income to bring dental services to 700 workers and their families. They will soon have a mobile dental clinic operating six days per week, where checkups, cleanings and any necessary prescriptions are free of charge.

For Agroproductos Del Cabo, a Fair Trade Organic tomato grower in Baja, education is a top priority. For every Fair Trade tomato bought from the farm, the workers are able to provide backpacks, notebooks, pens and pencils for the kids in the community. The goal is to extend this program to university students in the future. These are the tools needed for success in school, made possible by your purchases.

After Hurricane Odile struck the Baja Peninsula earlier this fall, the workers at Agroproductos Del Cabo also decided to use a portion of their Fair Trade funds to send food to their fellow producers who were affected by the storm. Having the means to help others in need was a huge source of pride for these workers.

Let’s continue to build these stories of hope by choosing Fair Trade produce this holiday season. Your one small purchase is creating a tremendous ripple effect for good.
